A little more about our speakers (as if you don’t know already…!)

Ryan Jones, former Welsh captain

Ryan Jones is the most capped Welsh captain in rugby union history, he began his career at Newport RFC in 1999 he has gone on to be part of the Celtic cup winning Ospreys’ side. Born in Newport, Wales, Ryan Jones has played for a number of well-known Welsh sides and continues to work as a sports speaker at local and club events across the Nation; as well as playing for Welsh sides Newport and Bridgend Jones has also played for the now disbanded Celtic Warriors and finally joined the Osprey’s in 2004. Whilst at the Osprey’s the team won both the Celtic League in 2004–05 and its replacement, the Magners League in 2006–07 at which point Ryan Jones was made captain. Ryan Jones continues to work as a rugby speaker for the Ospreys, his captaincy and the team’s success during his tenure helping to make him a very popular after dinner speaker for all Osprey fans. Wayne Pivac, incoming Wales Head Coach

Similarly to Warren Gatland, Wayne Pivac also hails from New Zealand – continuing the Welsh-Kiwi link in the coaching role. Previous Kiwi coaches include Graham Henry and Steve Hansen. Glasgow and Crusaders coaches Dave Rennie and Scott Robertson were also linked with the role before Pivac was announced.

This announcement marks his return to coaching at the international level after his stint with the Fijian national team from 2004 to 2007. Since then Pivac returned home to coach at the provincial level with Auckland. He remained there until 2014 where he secured an assistant role with the Scarlets. Simon Easterby was set to become the head-coach but before the season started the Ireland international took a forwards coach role with the national team. As a result, Pivac became the head coach.

It has been an illustrious few years with the team, culminating with a Pro12 title in 2017. In 2018 the Scarlets lost in the PRO14 final to Leinster, and also made the Champions Cup semi-finals, where again, they lost to Leinster. (Source: Rugby World)
