22nd April marks Earth Day around the world and to celebrate wanted to shine a spotlight on some brilliant Welsh businesses that are leading the green revolution with planet-first products and ideas. From tech start-ups to expert consultancies, these innovators are showing us how sustainability and economic growth can go hand in hand.
Wales is demonstrating that green innovation and cultural change is being driven by businesses who are working towards creating a future that’s both sustainable and prosperous. From extending the life of leftover coffee grounds to inventing new vehicle alternatives, Wales is leading by example, pushing boundaries and leading innovation which is something to be celebrated!

Green Chilly Company
Green Chilly Company, is Swansea-based manufacturer of eco-friendly cooling products. The company was co-founded by London-based Welsh entrepreneur Phil Ingram in 2019. Its pioneering fully-recycled products are designed to be a sustainable way to keep beverages, food, packaging and pharmaceuticals at optimum temperatures.
Its flagship product, the Fwrap, is a sustainable drinks cooler made from simply recycled paper and rainwater and is designed to chill beverages quickly and keep them cool for extended periods. The company is also developing other innovations in cooling technology including an ice bucket alternative which eliminates the need for ice, providing a portable and environmentally friendly solution for keeping drinks cold. Gopher Zero
Gopher Zero, a pioneering software company founded by husband and wife team Mat and Laura Thomson, based in Monmouthshire. Its mission is to help small businesses navigate sustainability with Carbon Reduction Plans. Their software platform provides businesses with the tools they need to easily track and reduce their environmental impact and ensure they meet compliance standards whilst adopting eco-friendly practices.
By calculating their carbon footprint from energy use and employee commuting, Gopher Zero allows businesses to make informed decisions that align with environmental goals without the need for complex, costly systems and reporting.
ACT Sustainably
ACT Sustainably is a consultancy, headquartered in Tenby, that specialises in helping businesses adopt sustainable practices and integrate environmental responsibility into their operations.
Since its launch in 2015, ACT Sustainably has been guiding companies of all shapes and sizes, on how to reduce carbon emissions and improve waste management. The company has a growing focus on providing advice on how to source sustainable materials and improve energy efficiency across multiple industries. Through its work, ACT Sustainably is empowering businesses to thrive in an eco-conscious world.
BlociCarbon
Based in Wrexham, BlociCarbon is pioneering a more ethical and transparent approach to carbon offsetting, partnering with Welsh farms to provide validated carbon credits. By leveraging blockchain technology, BlociCarbon ensures that every carbon credit is securely recorded, traceable, and reinvested into environmental initiatives.
By working directly with landowners, BlociCarbon ensures that every offset contributes to real, legitimate environmental improvements. Their work not only reduces carbon footprints but also enhances soil health, increases biodiversity, and supports local ecosystems.
Climategames
Climategames, was founded by Welsh entrepreneur Kate Strong, and based in Maidenhed. The company’s mission is to tackle the health and climate crises at the same time by offering an accessible way for businesses to engage their employees in sustainability efforts whilst improving their well-being.
Employees are encouraged to participate in friendly challenges whilst funding meaningful environmental projects. Whether through tree planting, ocean plastic removal, or greenhouse gas mitigation, every workout logged on the platform funds critical environmental initiatives. This gamified approach to climate action has already demonstrated success, allowing up to 10,000 participants per event and inspiring businesses across 110 different countries.
Radnor Automotive
Radnor Automotive, based in Llandrindod Wells, is a vehicle engineering and electrical powertrain consultancy that wants to change the way the world sees electrified vehicles and the transition to low-carbon..
Its mission is to create lightweight, sustainable vehicles that do not compromise on performance or driver engagement. The company’s prototype car Draig is a sportscar unlike traditional sports cars, which rely on internal combustion engines and fossil fuels, and instead is designed using advanced powertrain technologies capable of supporting a variety of eco-friendly fuel alternatives. Grounds for Good
Grounds for Good, based in Cardiff, is a small company with a big social and environmental conscience. Taking used (and previously unwanted) coffee grounds and transforming them into unique, eco-friendly products. The company’s product range includes alcoholic spirits, like gin and vodka, as well as chocolate, homeware items, and beauty products.
Founded during lockdown by Dr. Rosie Oretti, a retired NHS professional with a passion for sustainable innovation, the company addresses food waste in Wales by collecting the used grounds from cafes across in Wales. Not only this but surplus grounds are sent to an anaerobic digestion facility, generating renewable energy for the Welsh National Grid. In addition a portion of the profits are donated to charity.
