Business Spotlight: New Media Ghost

28 Sep, 2023

New Media Ghost is a marketing firm, based in Cardiff, which manages digital presence for businesses and individual clients.

New Media Ghost joined the GlobalWelsh for Business Membership programme in 2022. We caught up with with founder and director, Kiki Choda, about how she can help Welsh people and businesses around the world build their profiles through bespoke results-driven marketing solutions.

Tell us about how New Media Ghost started…

I founded my company New Media Ghost in 2017 and I was initially managing online social media accounts and ghost writing for senior executives to help raise their personal brand and a little later down the line came crisis management for some of those clients. In the latter half of 2018 I realised that I was limited in the number of profiles I could manage, in addition, I was being asked to help with clients' wider marketing efforts. This is when I had decided to pivot into what I knew best, online business marketing.

Through the years New Media Ghost has grown in clientele and headcount. After the pandemic we had to hit the restart button and have had the pleasure of working across many sectors. Today, a large proportion of our work is in the tech and health sector and I also continue to work with senior executives on their personal brands.

"Being a part of the GlobalWelsh community offers us access to a much wider network around the world. I am excited about making connections in the medtech, cyber security and healthtech sectors especially."

What services do you offer clients?

We focus on key areas of marketing such as strategy, social media marketing, planning and content writing such as blogs, white papers, guides, and the like.

We also have a strong focus on helping brands with SEO and, contrary to what some think, is way more than just a few key words! It can take weeks, if not months, of building a business’ brand to achieve positive SEO results. Unfortunately, we often see a disconnect between non-marketers and their marketing teams as it can be portrayed as just ‘posting on social media’. This is not the case, if you want to succeed, you need to research and devise a strategy.

Transparency is a pillar for my business so it’s important to be clear with clients that we aren’t a jack-of-all-trades. I have a strong marketing network so where there are gaps in our service offering we’ll enlist the help of experts in those areas. Sometimes it can be difficult to find the right partner to work with, this is the reason for bootstrap growth for New Media Ghost right now.

What makes New Media Ghost different?

We work differently to some other marketing firms in that we are results driven and don’t charge by the hour.

I’ll get the client brief and will put together a package of work that meets their objectives and set about with the end result in mind. Working both in agency and in-house I understand how clients can get frustrated when they are not kept informed on activity and performance. We ensure that clients are always kept up to date so that they don’t feel they need to contact us.

My company ethos of transparency and confidentiality are important factors that filter into how we work and help us to build trust and rapour with clients. I instill these values with my team and the people who work as partners of New Media Ghost.

Tell us about your clients?

We can work with clients based anywhere in the world. When I had first embarked on going it alone, I had a client in Ireland and he kindly referred me to a client in California, so my business grew internationally overnight.

In the beginning I was using Skype, which seems ahead of its time now thinking about remote working post-pandemic, so for years I’ve been connecting with clients all over the world. I’m happy to say that a lot of our work comes via referrals both in the UK and overseas.

We enjoy working with every single one of our clients and we are lucky to work with people who understand the importance of being strategic when it comes to getting their message online and don’t believe in the ‘spray and pray’ approach.

Some of our clients are regulated by their respective ombudsman or industry associations, such as the British Medical Association, Financial Conduct Authority or the Food Standards Agency. This is an area in which we have experience so can steer them in the right direction when it comes to advertising and avoid any unwanted repercussions!

What does the future look like for New Media Ghost and how does your GlobalWelsh for Business membership play into that?

There’s nothing better than hearing a client say ‘I never thought of that’ so we want to continue to offer more of those moments through our bespoke marketing solutions.

I would like New Media Ghost to continue to grow and create its own legacy. I’m not interested in building my business and then breaking it apart and selling it off, so I’m looking forward to seeing how far I can take it. Who knows what the future will hold.

Being a part of the GlobalWelsh community offers us access to a much wider network around the world. I am excited about making connections in the medtech, cyber security and healthtech sectors especially. As a Welsh company we want to offer the community a service by managing their digital presence online, broaden their horizons and show them different areas of marketing - delivered to them from back home in Wales.
